TAK Studio has came out with an innovative idea that will minimize the amount of energy spent to power the street lights that light up the roadside, no other source but from the passing vehicles generate clean energy. This Turbine Lights has been entered into the Greener Gadgets 2010 competition, using the wind generated by vehicles whipping by them will keep your night drives safe with wind energy. The Turbine Lights have a lot of potential, good for wind-heavy cities or a road with heavy traffic, no doubt this would be a great addition to roads…

Bart Weegens is a scientist from Belgium who has found a low-technology method to go about landmine detection to tackle issue of unexploded mines. The idea could save hundreds of lives. So called the HeroRAT is an intelligent species and easy to train and with many new recruits easy to breed.

According to Bart, the rats have a great sense of smell and it is practically easy to train them although the training is a little time consuming.. So basically he is putting a leash on a rat to lead it or hold it in check by deploying them in the field to detect land mines by scent.

Alexis Rochas the SCI-Arc professor and architect explains about his SynthE green roof project which he has been completed on the roof of an old Holiday Inn-converted to condominiums.. The green roof will provide vegetable for the restaurant and tenants of the building, 20 types of plants are grown here, rotated by season, most of them are planted and harvested in 90-day cycles.

Rochas explained. “The architect becomes a gardener, the gardener a planner.” Indeed, the entire roof, but for a patch of grass intended for lounging by residents, is planted with various fruits, vegetables, and other edibles for Blue Velvet. Working 90-day crop cycles, the team grows all manner of tomatoes, herbs, greens, berries, wheat grass, even some monster cabbage. “It’s a true, organic experiment, seeing what will grow and succeed.

Bamboo is the fastest-growing plant, it’s woody perennial evergreen that can thrive without the use of pesticides and grow quickly in different climates. In many countries Bamboo plant has high cultural significance and it’s used extensively in gardens and as a building material. Bamboo can play an important role in plant conservation worldwide along with many other natural resources.



Washington-based, biotech lab, Boo-Shoot Gardens has produced a major achievement in tissue-culture science that enables rapid propagation of bamboo plants. Jackie Heinricher the Owner of Boo-shoot launched Boo-Shoot in 1998. Now Jackie Heinricher with their senior scientist Randy Burr, will supply wholesalers with over two million plants annually.

Boo-Shoot’s technology will help to meet the growing demand of bamboo in wood products, soil stabilization, reforestation paper pulp, textiles, flooring, and all sorts of household items. Since bamboo sequesters carbon 4x as efficiently as hardwood trees, growing bamboo will be good for the planet and for the air we breathe.
